Time is running out if you want to fish the 2014 World Carp Classic final – there are only a few places left! Held every year since 1998, this year the big event moves to Lake Bolsena, in Italy, from September 29th to October 5th. If you’d like to take part and represent the UK while competing against the best carp anglers in the world, you need to fish in the UK qualifying match, at the new Wraysbury 1, on July 24th to 27th. With a stock of around 50 originals and 350 hand-picked new fish, and recent captures to just under 50lb, this iconic fishery is definitely back on the map! There will be 20 double swims available to 40 anglers, covering the 45-acre lake. The cost of entry to the UK qualifier is £250 per pair with a maximum of four rods.

This Saturday, May 31st, the Chapmans Angling Store in Hull sees the Fox and Matrix Open Day, hosted by top carp catchers Mark Pitchers and Tom Maker from Fox. They’ll be on hand all day to answer all questions carpy, show you the latest rigs and tactics – including zig rigs and getting the most out of PVA – guaranteed to help you put more fish on the bank, plus the very latest gear from Fox. For commercial match and pleasure anglers, Ricky Teale – top angler and the brains behind the superb Matrix range – will be there to answer any questions you have, from Method and pellet-feeder rigs and killer waggler tactics to pole fishing styles, rigs and when best to use them, as well as demonstrating all the latest Matrix rods, poles, feeders and rigs. A fantastic raffle will also be held on the day, giving you the chance to win some superb prizes including a Fox Supa Brolly shelter and many other great prizes.

Just a quick update as to what has been happening at Les Quis during the winter. 

 Firstly, we have put in a drainage system that has enabled us to drop the levels of all four lakes by 18 inches. After the last four years of wet winters and even wetter spring times, the levels have gradually crept up making some of the swims tricky to fish due to water encroaching up the bank. Hopefully excess water is now a thing of the past!

Secondly, we have just had a delivery of new fish.

The biggest carp angling event of the year has got underway at Farlows Lake in Buckinghamshire, where 12 pairs of anglers are competing for a first prize of £30,000 in the Total Carp-sponsored Erics Angling Carp Championships. The final started at noon on Thursday, 15th August, and over the next 72 hours the qualifiers from the 14 regional heats and two semi-finals will battle it out for the big-money prize. Overall there are three cash prizes – as well as the big money for the winning pair there’s £6,000 for the runners-up and £2,500 for the third-placed anglers. On top of that, the top team in the event will also win a fishing holiday to France.

Solar team ember Colin Gray seemingly can't put a foot wrong on his current target water Darenth Big Lake. Squeezing overnight sessions in between a hectic work schedule, Colin has caught on each of his past three consecutive sessions, with the biggest carp being a 35lb 8oz common landed on a Solar Pineapple and N-Butyric Acid pop-up presented over a bed of Club Mix boilies. The second fish, a 20lb-plus common and his third, a lovely mirror of 31lb 8oz, also fell to the same tactics. Colin hopes his form will continue through his upcoming BCAC semi finals and the Eric's Angling Carp Championship semi-finals, both of which he will be competing in over the coming weeks.
