AVID CARP
TUNED BARROW
As you would expect from the ever-growing and impressive Avid stable, the Tuned Barrow boasts quality, with its unique design for transporting heavy loads over large distances. The unique handles allow you to adjust the barrow to suit your height, easing pressure on the user’s back and shoulders, which is where injuries can commonly occur. It is these small yet invaluable features that make it both easier and less painful to push around any venue whether it be uneven or level ground. The two pockets either side of the wheel and large pannier are all compatible with the Tuned range of luggage and allow you to distribute weight evenly.
Marc Coulson’s verdict - Money well spent, which is saying something for me! 5/5
As I mentioned in my diary piece this month, it was a bit of a trial getting hold of these, but after some serious time spent on the phone to various tackle shops across the UK, Johnson Ross and Climax Tackle eventually came up trumps.
To say I haven’t looked back since owning them would be an understatement because they have been a revelation.
I’ve never truly found a barrow that I was absolutely happy with until this one, which I happened to notice my mate Scott Day from Fox do a video for on the Fox YouTube channel.
I was struck by just how low Scott’s gear was when piled on to the barrow, something I’ve always tried to achieve but without success, despite not carrying what I would consider an overly large a amount of gear.
My barrow of choice, this is packed with great features and additional extras. I’ll keep to the facts for now because I’m going to pen a Used & Abused review in a forthcoming issue, but take it from me, it’s a cracking bit of kit.
Pockets either side of the wheel, a front pannier and a central lower compartment make for easy weight distribution and allow for all sorts of smaller items to be safely stowed without them falling off the barrow.
The main central compartment will perfectly house Avid’s Transit 2 carryall, which is a nice touch, but other compact carryalls will also go in there.

When it comes to bankside transportation, Prestige Engineering has been at the forefront of innovation for over 25 years. Throughout the carp scene the range of Carp Porters are renowned for their strength, reliability and remarkable craftsmanship.
After a few enthusiastic phone calls, the guys at Total Fishing Tackle sent us the new goliath Carp Porter MK2 Big Boy Tri Porter to see what all the commotion was about. As you would expect, the level of workmanship is to the same high standard seen on the earlier, popular versions but with a lot more features.
Okay, this isn’t going to rock your world, but it’s a very neat improvement on a product that most of us use on a regular basis.
I got one flush in the face once and it was as painful as I think I’ve ever known. The problem with most bungee straps is that the big plastic hook on them can, if they slip or malfunction, be a serious risk to your health.
This version, however, with its altogether safer connection, virtually eliminates any such risk.
Sometimes the simplest designs can be the best and, in the case of this barrow, especially if you’re a day-only angler, this is bang on.
My mate asked me why you’d ever use a barrow on a day session? I was like: “You’re kidding, right?” It makes perfect sense to fish off a barrow and be in a position to move what little gear you have quickly and without fuss. In which case, a barrow of this kind of size is perfect.
Easy to set up and with adjustable front bars and undercarriage bag, this is absolutely spot-on and Korum has hit its intended market perfectly.
A super-sturdy, well-balanced, easy-to-push barrow with folding side and front arms.
It comes with a large, low-slung centre bag and two side pockets, which are ideally suited to carry water bottles and suchlike. It has a unique ‘fold flat-stay flat’ transport-minded design and is supplied with a custom-fit rain cover and two luggage straps. JRC Easy Rider Extreme Barrow – £224.
I have a small car so space for gear is at a premium. However, despite its large capacity, the Trackta folds up into a surprisingly flat package.
The assembly is quick and simple and takes just a minute to complete. Capacity is impressive, and when loaded correctly it’s both smooth and well balanced to push along the bank.
Having changed my car from a family-sized MPV to a much smaller model I have had to rethink some of my tackle items.
My new motor is still an estate, but it’s a very compact version so, sadly, my previous barrow, which I really liked, had to go. The Metro is the smallest in the range and is ideally suited to anglers with smaller cars or who don’t take mountains of gear. It’s performed really well, and it copes comfortably with my bedchair (I open the legs to form side arms on the barrow), rucksack, rod bag, bivvy and bait bucket.
Durable, twin webbing straps designed and manufactured in the UK, ideal for securing all of your gear to your barrow.
