This Saturday, June 28th, sees the grand opening of tackle retailer Angling Direct’s new Halesowen store. To celebrate the opening of its 10th retail branch, Angling Direct is offering 10 per cent off everything on the day, including price-checked items. There will also be exclusive special offers available and a free prize draw to enter. The shop, which is the tackle giant’s first Midlands-based store, will cater for all types of fishing, including carp, coarse and match, and will stock thousands of items of tackle, from the smallest accessories to top-of-the-range poles – including all the top brand names and Angling Direct’s very own ADvanta product range.

120+ exhibitors at Norfolk show. Over 120 stands have confirmed their attendance at the British Carp Angling Show. Taking place at the Norkfolk Showground on the weekend of the 18th and 19th January next year, organisers are expecting to see more people attend this year than ever before. The show premiered in January 2012 and blew the minds of many exhibitors who were thrilled with the busy and lively atmosphere, where visitor numbers reached an estimated 9,000 over the 2-day show.

Birds Tackle, the Ipswich-based tackle and gun megastore, has launched a new interactive app to make shopping for tackle easier. Not only that, but anglers can even watch video clips for hints, tips and tackle reviews, plus they can view photo galleries from other anglers, as well as upload their own catch pictures. JAPANESE bait specialist Marukyu Europe Ltd, has made the acquisition of British-based carp specialist, Rig Marole. It is Marukyu Europe' s first acquisition since it was created in 2010. Rigmarole is a British specialist in terminal tackle. It has been privately owned for 11 years.

The introduction of a new technology that will dramatically cut the transfer of fish disease is the result of leading lights from British industry pulling together. BSafe – short for 'bacteria safe' – began life in the mind of avid angler Derek Willan, who believes that all anglers should be doing their bit to safeguard fish health in the UK. Derek explained: "Virus outbreaks were getting all the press, but research revealed that the bigger killers were a relatively small group of bacteria which the Environment Agency confirmed were present in the majority of fish mortalities they attended in 2013. 

“It has been proven under laboratory conditions that disease can be transferred on nets to fish, and I feel, as anglers, we have a duty of care to look into any avenue that can help ensure healthier fish stocks.

Droitwich Angling Centre (DAC) is taking part in the upcoming Carp-In-4-Cancer charity fishing competition where, every year for the last seven years, a group of anglers raises money for the non-government-funded hospices that the Carp-In-4-Cancer charity supports. This year the event is taking place this weekend, starting Friday, June 13th. So far Carp-In-4-Cancer has raised a total of over £45,000. Last year it raised just under £10,000, which enabled it to donate £5,000 each to the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge, and Katherine House Hospice in Stafford.

Stars-a-plenty at Surrey Show. The 14th annual Carp Society Winter Show is taking place this weekend (30th November and 1st December) at Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey. Although advanced tickets have now sold out, tickets are available on the door from 10am both days, with the show closing at 5pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday. Exhibitors include Korda, Nash, Fox, Delkim, Taska, Avid Carp, Trakker, Greys, Gardener and CC Moore.

Popular holiday carp fishing venue Cherry Lakes has been in touch with news of early spring action on its two-lake complex. Based in the heart of the Cotswold water park, Cherry Lakes consists of two lakes, Cherry Lake and Cherry Pool – both with fantastic stocks of beautiful carp. Damon Wadley fishing with Mike Harrison in Heron Lodge smashed his personal best with a mirror carp of 34lb 2oz. The ‘Broken Mirror’, as it is known, has not been out since last summer when she was caught at 33lb 8oz.
