16 year old found face down in the water. Tribute have been paid to a 16-year-old boy who tragically died last weekend during a fishing trip. David Moss was found face down in Moreton Fisheries, near Congleton, on Saturday afternoon, by his mum, Dawn and despite best efforts he could not be revived. Fishery manager, Chris, explained: “All of the staff here at the fishery are obviously devastated by what has happened.

Splash Baits tester enjoys first week to remember! South west bait outfit, Splash Baits have recently signed a new field tester in the hape of Welsh ace, Jason Massay. It looks as if the decision to join Splash has already proved lucrative for him, after he banked a 25lb 2oz common and a 16lb 4oz mirror on his first session with their Factor VIII bait! He explained: “I decided to start fishing Factor VII on my local syndicate water for the winter, so after receiving them I started to trickle a few baits in leading up to the weekends session. When I say a few baits I literally used 1/2 kg over four days, I know the lake has been fishing very tough lately, so frugal feeding was the order of the day. After turning up early on the Saturday morning and speaking to a few regulars, I was not surprised to hear that only two fish had been caught the past few nights.

Our editor, Marc Coulson, is quite a harsh critic when it comes to certain tackle items and sleeping bags are often hard pressed to impress him. Nevertheless, when he checked out these three new bags from Avid Carp, at its recent autumn trade and press event, he was immediately impressed. Here’s what Marc had to say: “Obviously, you can only truly test a sleeping bag out on the bank, in the conditions for which it is designed. However, initial impressions of the new Arctic series are extremely good.

I am very precious about my fishing kit, especially the more expensive stuff, so I keep my alarms in one of these bags. Inside there are ample compartments and fixings to keep my alarms, bars and bobbin collection (I have a bit of a thing about bobbins) safe from harm. I use the standard version and keep a two-rod setup inside. Bigger buzz bars will probably see the need for the XL version.

I’ve been impressed with these super-buoyant hook baits because they’re well rolled, stay popped-up for ages and smell fabulous. The white colour remains for long periods – a colour that I’ve always thought works well. I’ve had a few fish on them already, including a couple from the river, so I am well sold on these baits so far. RRP: £7.

A sharp intake of breath will no doubt be most people’s first reaction upon seeing the price of these glasses. However, there’s a simple rule in most walks of life – you get what you pay for. I’ve used a pair of these for a year or so and, more recently, have been testing newer versions with updated lenses and snazzy frame option. They are quite simply stunning.

Winter bait is very important. With fishmeal-based boilies often containing high levels of fish oil, bird-food-based baits are much more digestible and during the winter months the carp will still eat plenty of a good-quality bait. The Berkley Gulp! range of boilie offers many flavours for all times of year but our particular favourite, the Coco and Banana, would make an excellent winter bait. Made from natural ingredients, the sweet coconut aroma mixed with the banana flavour is sure to catch plenty of carp.
