The introduction of a new technology that will dramatically cut the transfer of fish disease is the result of leading lights from British industry pulling together.
BSafe – short for 'bacteria safe' – began life in the mind of avid angler Derek Willan, who believes that all anglers should be doing their bit to safeguard fish health in the UK. Derek explained: "Virus outbreaks were getting all the press, but research revealed that the bigger killers were a relatively small group of bacteria which the Environment Agency confirmed were present in the majority of fish mortalities they attended in 2013. “It has been proven under laboratory conditions that disease can be transferred on nets to fish, and I feel, as anglers, we have a duty of care to look into any avenue that can help ensure healthier fish stocks.
Popular Bedfordshire day-ticket complex is hotting up with some huge hauls of carp.
Damsel lake on the well-known Manor Farm fishery complex in Biggleswade has been throwing up some fantastic fish action. Avery successful weekend's fishing from Sam Burden and his friends saw them land upwards of 50 fish in their session. Fish were caught using a variety of methods, however, the most prolific was zig rigs with yellow or red foam.
Gloucestershire venue's one-off reduction. Cherry Lakes, near South Cerney in Gloucestershire is offering an exclusive winter deal, which will see prices greatly dropped through the months of January and February. Venue owner, Mike Kirsch explained: "This is our first winter as Cherry Lakes with the Lodges. It is also our first winter since we drained and re-modelled the lake as well as added to the carp stocks.
Solar team ember Colin Gray seemingly can't put a foot wrong on his current target water Darenth Big Lake. Squeezing overnight sessions in between a hectic work schedule, Colin has caught on each of his past three consecutive sessions, with the biggest carp being a 35lb 8oz common landed on a Solar Pineapple and N-Butyric Acid pop-up presented over a bed of Club Mix boilies. The second fish, a 20lb-plus common and his third, a lovely mirror of 31lb 8oz, also fell to the same tactics. Colin hopes his form will continue through his upcoming BCAC semi finals and the Eric's Angling Carp Championship semi-finals, both of which he will be competing in over the coming weeks.
Just a quick update as to what has been happening at Les Quis during the winter. Firstly, we have put in a drainage system that has enabled us to drop the levels of all four lakes by 18 inches. After the last four years of wet winters and even wetter spring times, the levels have gradually crept up making some of the swims tricky to fish due to water encroaching up the bank. Hopefully excess water is now a thing of the past! Secondly, we have just had a delivery of new fish.
