Shimano Tribal Monofilament

Fishing a variety of venues, be it on TC features or when fishing for myself, I need a line that is versatile enough for whatever situation I might face next.

Having tested the 12lb and 10lb versions of the Tribal for some time, I settled on the latter, largely due to the fact that the breaking strain seems considerably higher than that stated on the spool.

You pay for this extra strength with a bit more in the way of diameter, so it’s not for the really long casters. However, I rarely fish over 100 yards and the 10lb gets me out that far with some ease.

It’s also suited to closer work and sinks very well, especially once it’s been used for a while.

I know our editor uses and rates this line and I think this stuff might well be staying on my reels for some time, too.

It’s reliable, strong and the abrasion resistance is also impressive. The colour is pretty unobtrusive and, despite its strength, it’s also reasonably supple. With 1,500 yards on the bulk spool of 10lb, it’s also very good value.
