New Nanofil from Berkley isn't a braid and it isn't a mono - but it is set to take the UK by storm. A revolution in fishing line has been launched at this year’s Tackle & Guns show, in the form of Nanofil from Berkley. Half way between a braid and a mono line, Nanofil uses a special technique where hundreds of nano filaments (hence the name) of gel spun polyethylene are bonded together to deliver high breaking strains at unbelievably low diameters. For example a 25lb break strain length of Nanofil measures just 0.

One of the biggest carp of the season banked from Kent venue open to all. One of the biggest carp in the country, and one of the largest caught this season, has been banked on a day-ticket water in Kent. The fish - a giant of 58lb 12oz - was caught by angler Daniel West during a 48-hour session at Kent’s Elphicks Fisheries. Known fondly as The Big Girl, the specimen fell for the 19-year-old Student’s boilie based approach which some him target a clean patch of ground between two island at 40 yards range on the venue’s North Lake.

Council U-turn threatens future of carp fishing on inner-city London lakes. Carp anglers are fighting to save their fish, following a local council’s u-turn on angling in a city-centre park. Anglers who fish London’s Victoria Park have seen stocks of fish at the venue’s two lakes removed in order for the park to be ‘prepared’ to act as a big screen viewing area for next year’s Olympic games. The fish were due to be returned around the end of the year, however a dramatic change of policy by London Borough of Tower Hamlets could now see the fish given away – even though half the stock were paid for by the local angling club, Victoria Park Anglers Alliance.

Two 10hour round trips to venue delivers record results for dedicated angler. Back-to-back 40pounders and a new lake record was the reward for Wigan rod Phil Woodcock after putting in a total of 20hours traveling time to his target water. Fishing Kent’s Wingham Lakes, 46-year-old Phil made the 5hour trip from up north to the exclusive syndicate water, landing the strapping carp known as The Orange at a new venue best of 45lb 1oz. As if that wasn't enough though, on his next 4day session down from Wigan, Phil fished the same swim, this time hooking into another of the 40lb residents – just 4hours after his first cast.

Charity Lakes heavyweight beats its own best to set the county bar even higher. The Norfolk carp record has been beaten with a fish of 52lb. Caught by Richie Lofthouse from Charity Lakes near Lenwade, the big specimen known as Baby Face breaks its own previous record by 6oz. Essex-based Richie has been targeting the fish at the syndicate water since April, coming agonizingly close to banking her last month after a hook pull.

Rare Scandinavian specimen tracked down in remote forest lake. Finland isn’t a country known for its big carp, in fact anglers have to look far and wide just to find waters holding decent fish – a fact that makes this 38lb 10oz fish such an impressive catch. Banked by Finnish angler and consultant for tackle firm Prologic, Janne Sulstrom, the beautifully coloured common was the result of a trek to a stunning remote forest lake. Baiting up with DD-Baits offerings, Janne fished the water using a DD-Baits Banana and Crustacean Big Ball popup, landing the specimen using a Prologic T-Carp rod following a screaming run from the fish which had probably never seen a hook before in its life.

Major carp event will not go ahead following local council's change of mind. The Southend Autumn Carp Show due to be held at Southend in Essex next month has been cancelled. Following a last-minute change of agreement by the local council the organisers of the show found themselves with less than half the original amount of parking for the show, leading them no other choice but to cancel the event. “It has always been in our agreement with the venue that we had exclusive use of the overspill parking area for our show as well as shared use of the rest of the car parking,” said Lee Apps of Redwood Events, organisers of the show.

New personal best follows two fish-less seasons on tough target water. A run of two seasons without a fish on a Bucks syndicate water were ended for big fish angler Tim Walden this week, after he banked this 40lb leather carp. Bedford-based rod Tim joined the lake last year with the sole intention of landing his first 40, targeting one of two fish present in the water that both go over the magic weight mark. However, following a run of blanks the Drennan-backed rod was determined to get his autumn campaign off to a good start, and come daybreak on his second day it did just that.
