One of my favourite pieces of kit is the original Chub Outkast Spod Rod. It was bought for me as a present five years ago, after I had chosen it as the one I wanted. Initially, I liked the simplicity of the design, being all black with a silver etched butt cap. This makes it look simple but still stand out slightly on the bank.
Temple's infamous Nemo was caught on Sunday night weighing 41 lb 14 oz. The McGinnis brothers made the most of the mild weather and perfect conditions on Temple this weekend catching 4 fish between them which included both Nemo and Two Tone which weighed 32 lb. Arriving midday Saturday, Dan McGinnis was soon into the first of his two fish at 16. 30, Two Tone weighing 32 lb (see photo below) which was followed at 4.
Solar Tackle field tester Thomas Mascha has enjoyed an incredible, 3-night session on a local, French venue. Taking his young son out with him, Thomas landed 16 carp including a lake-record 48lb+ (22kg) mirror, the biggest koi carp in the lake at 18lb 10oz (8. 5kg) and a near 40lb (18kg) sturgeon. Presenting a snowman hook bait over an area baited with a mixture of Solar Tackle’s Club Mix and Top Banana boilies and particles produced all of Thomas’s takes, with the area being topped up after every fish.
Most of us can remember our first fishing trip. Some a little more hazily than others, but I think that 95 per cent of anglers could tell you not only the size of their first fish, but where they caught it, which bait they used and how long it took to land.
My first fish came when I was seven at a small council-run pond on Southampton Common. Not a double-figure mirror or a hard-fighting common but a roach, all two inches of it.
This is a rare opportunity – how would you like to be paid to read your favourite fishing magazines? Leading specialist publishing house David Hall Publishing Ltd is looking for a part-time sub editor.
Working on a range of consumer and trade publications – both in print and digital – within the angling/shooting field
Sub edit copy from the company’s own journalists as well as outside contributors, covering a wide range of writing abilities – as DHP’s founder, David Hall, stated: “Better a good angler who can write a bit than a great journalist who knows little about fishing. ” In other words, good subbing skills are needed!
Proof read magazines at early stages in the production process before they go to print – a good eye for house style and detail is required
Three days a week (to start with, maybe more in future)
Will need to work in the office at least some of the time but depending on location can also work from home
Excellent knowledge of written English, spelling and grammar required
Angling knowledge would be a definite advantage; being a practising angler would be ideal!

Trade publications include Tackle & Guns, Tackle Trade World and Gun Trade World

Let me first point out that these are waders for the serious angler with a budget to match.
Yes they’re pricey, but I can say unequivocally that they are the best waders I have ever been asked to test.
This is not a Used & Abused review because I haven’t had this set long enough to do one of those justice, but I am extremely impressed in the short time I’ve been testing them. To be fair, I already was because TC’s Dan Murrell owns a set and raves about them.
Reuben Heaton is the most prestigious and highly regarded scales manufacturer in the angling industry.
Offering a broad range of weighing accessories, we are happy to review the fantastic, high-performance digital variety known as the 7000 Series Digital Scale.
There are two varieties available, both weighing in small increments of 25g/1oz divisions, the first covering fish weights of up to 66lb/30kg and the larger variety coping with 132lb/60kg. To ensure durability, these are also waterproof, shockproof and constructed around a high-impact polycarbonate body.
Introducing the S3 and S4 rod ranges, Sonik has pulled out all the stops with some great incentives and real money-saving deals that could just tempt you to that set of new wands you have been waiting for.
The S3 is available in a range of lengths, starting from a compact and stealthy 9ft through to 10ft, 12ft and a 13ft models. The 9ft features a slim shrink handle while the other models are all available in both cork and slim shrink.
The 12ft rods at 3lb test curve and over also feature 50mm butt rings as standard.
Despite an extremely mild winter, with some cold winds on the way and even the possibility of the odd snow flutter, it might be a little soon to overlook winter clothing. We’ve checked out some new winter garments from Prologic and they are very impressive.
Sold individually, both items boast an awesome PU lamination, which gives 100 per cent waterproof protection while retaining a breathability of 3. 000mvp, so as well as keeping the water out, it does its best to limit the wearer’s sweating.
We like this!
The reel market has to be the most difficult to make your mark in, such has been the dominance of Shimano and Daiwa over the years. However, several companies are now finding that their products, when they get them right, are currying favour with lots of carp anglers.
Having not been a huge fan of the earlier Stratos that Fox produced, I am an absolute convert in my belief since the release of the FX11 and, now, the scaled-down FX9.
I have not used or tested the bigger Fox reels (12000XT and so on) so cannot comment on those, but the FX11 is an impressive performer and this follows in that reel’s footsteps.
