Imagine having a bivvy light that you can recharge but which also doubles up as a power bank for your portable devices… erm, well that’s what this is. The LMP10AH4 Waterproof Rechargeable Lamp And Power Bank, to give it its full title, features a USB2 input for charging with any similar lead, the likes of which are about these days, as well as a USB outlet for passing on that charge to phones and the like while in transit. The light itself has four settings, the dimmest of which is ideal for ambient bivvy light, whereas the strongest will help you read even the smallest print in a book. It holds a significant charge once fully juiced up and this lasts a very long time, still having enough to fully charge an iPhone even after a few days on the bank.

Following the success of the original Tournos 8000, Sonik has introduced a new version, this time with a free-spool facility. In keeping with modern trends, the FS retains its black finish, chunky bail arm and minimalist design. The free-spool lever and adjust knob are not overly obtrusive, yet remain accessible and easy to engage. The free spool disengages with no more than a third of a turn of the handle, which is essential when taking on your battle with the carp.

This month’s blog is a venue report on a local day-ticket park lake known as The Ressers. It is only a small water at approximately four acres. It has two small islands and depths from two to nine feet. The maximum cast is around 50 yards, so no matter where you fish it isn’t a big cast.

With spending half of my week in the Bath area, and not wanting to miss an opportunity of wetting a line, I have become a member of the Bathampton Angling Association (BAA), a ticket offering a host of waters for various fishing capabilities. The collective of lakes were previously known as The Hunstrete Complex but were officially renamed as The Dave Crooks Fishery at Hunstrete (The Dave Crookes Fishery) in January 2014. This was to recognise the tremendous work done by Dave over many years since joining the committee in 1971 and then becoming general secretary in 1980. Sadly, ill health finally took its toll and Dave passed away in December 2015; he is greatly missed by many at the club.

I have been using the Fox Rangemaster carbon throwing stick for just over a year and it’s excellent. Before I bought it I had a rather heavy plastic throwing stick, which was an absolute pain! I could only put out 1kg at most! Even then I’d end up with an aching arm the next day. Plus, when fishing heavily stocked venues with big fish in, a kilo can be cleared in minutes. Since switching to a much lighter carbon stick baiting up is much easier, mainly because it’s so light.

On Wednesday January 27th the four winners of Angling Direct’s King of the Catch competition were awarded their crowns. The ceremony took place at Angling Direct’s head office and whilst the winners were there they were also given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the venue by members of the management team to see what life is like at the UK’s leading tackle retailer. All four winners have stated how much they enjoyed the experience: Charlie Coppolo, Carp category winner: ‘Catching the fish in the first place was such an honour and being crowned King of the Catch has only made that more special to me’. He received 858 votes after catching a 30lb 8oz mirror carp.

RidgeMonkey has come up with a great product to help people cook on the bankside easier. Not only does it make toastie sandwiches with whatever you choose to put in it but you can make many different meals, from omelettes and burgers to fry-ups and even heat up your Chinese (check out Facebook RidgeMonkey recipe dedicated page). It features: • Lightweight die-cast aluminium pans • Fluoropolymer non-stick coating • Ridged exterior for even heat transfer • Cool-touch lockable handles • Can be used on all traditional stoves (not suitable for use on induction hobs) There are many benefits to this product, one of them being that you can use this on your stove at home. Also nothing seems to stick to the inside of this product and as long as you use it at the correct temperatures nothing gets burnt.
