The beginning I got into fishing nearly 30 years ago after being introduced to it by my dad. With him being away serving in the Army it was his way of spending quality time with me. As most of us did, I initially started float fishing and catching small coarse fish. As I got into fishing more and the fish started to get bigger, the more I became obsessed with it.

How To Fish Weedy Lakes
It’s that time of year where the weed in many lakes is at its highest. However, according to KARL PITCHER, it’s easier to overcome than you might think.
Weed! It can be your worst nightmare, but as the water warms up and the summer fast approaches it can be unavoidable at times on certain lakes. With many types often present, it makes knowing where to start a head-banger to say the least.

Carp Team England’s men’s and ladies’ teams recently hosted an evening at the superb RK Leisure Wraysbury 1 Lodge to celebrate the success of both teams over the past 12 months, thank sponsors for their support and announce coming events and plans going forward for Carp Team England.
It is an exciting time for all of the Carp Team England squads, with more events and some exciting new fixtures to compete in.
Following the success of the Celtic Cup, a Home Nations event involving England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales is planned for 2017, together with friendlies both at home and abroad for the men’s team. England intend to host a Six Nations event in 2017 following on from their victory in France in May, and in the meantime there is, of course, the defence of their World Championship title at Lac du Bourdon this September.
An overnighter on a packed water is far from the easiest environment to catch carp in, but that’s exaclt what Solar Tackle team members Wesley Lagart and Ignace de Roeck have done, with Solar's new TunaMino test baits performing yet again.
Grabbing the opportunity to nick a night on the bank, the Belgian-based pair dropped onto the Waesmere syndicate water for an overnighter. On arrival, Wes and Ignace found the lake packed, with only one swim option left for them. Taking minimal gear on the barrow, as the swim was typically as far from the car park as possible, both guys had to catch their breath on arrival in the swim, after a long walk on uneven ground in hot temperatures.
Experienced and novice anglers alike are being warned to ‘Look Out, Look Up’ for overhead power lines, as National Fishing Month gets underway from July 22 to August 29.
But as people head for the lakes, rivers and canals with their eyes cast downward to study the water, UK Power Networks, is urging them to take extra care and look up instead.
It can be extremely dangerous for any equipment to come in to contact with overhead power lines and the electricity company runs more than 65,000 km of overhead power lines across the South East and East of England.
Safety expert Ros Forbes at UK Power Networks said: “It’s understandable that anglers are focused on their sport, but we know they increasingly use long carbon fibre fishing poles which could come into contact with cables, so we’re reminding them to “Look Out, Look Up” before settling down to fish.
