Ace Razor Point Longshank Hooks

They’ve been three years in the planning but the Razor Points have finally landed and take their place in the upper echelons of carp-hook designs.

Unsurprisingly, given Max Cottis’ influence, the packaging is eye-catching and significant in size. Inside, the 10 hooks are housed in clips for separation and to keep the hook points pristine, but it does mean that if you want to carry more than 10 hooks of the same pattern you have to have more than one of the bulky boxes.

Knowing how loose hooks are supplied by the manufacturers to tackle companies, we’re not entirely convinced of the merits of these boxes, which keep each hook separate, but it doesn’t do any harm, we suppose.

Whatever the case, the hooks are remarkably sharp straight from the box and ACE claims that the points remain durable for multiple fish captures, which we think is vital, especially given the price of modern hooks. They certainly feel strong enough and even in our crude initial tests they have stood up to some significant abuse. We’ll be using them ourselves over the coming months, so will report back in a later issue.

There are seven patterns in the range, each of which is the result of intensive consultation with the ACE team and anglers from outside the organisation. The resulting line-up has every fishing situation covered without the need for unnecessary duplication of any patterns.

We’re sure that, given current trends, the most popular patterns will be the SRC (Stiff Rig Chod) and the Zig. Both are ideally suited for their intended uses. Our particular favourites are the MCS and SCS, medium and short-shanked curve patterns, which look really versatile, as does the beefier CXS (Continental Xtra Strong). Finally, boilie anglers will love the wide-gape-style BBP (Boilie Beaked Point) which, as the name suggests, looks a great bottom-bait pattern.

All are produced using 80 Carbon Steel and, as we’ve mentioned, they’re super-sharp, as sharp as any hooks we’ve tested straight from the pack. Keep an eye out for the Razor Points landing in a tackle shop near you.
