45lb monster for Paul McCarthy!Paul 'Welshy' McCarthy enjoyed a weekend to remember, after banking a 45lb monster from Cleverley Top Lake. After a series of blanks over the winter, Welshy brought the bad run to an end, by banking the impressive fish, known as 'Geezers'. The chunk, slammed the scales to an impressive 45lb on this occasion. The monster came from a swim called Cox’s, which was tucked away on the back off a freezing wind, and produced Welshy’s first bite since November.

Fishery bans Eastern European anglers. A Warwickshire fishery owner has made national headlines after banning Eastern European anglers from his fishery. Eddie Whitehead, owner of Dog Lane Fishery near Napton, put up a sign reading “No Eastern Europeans” after he had almost £10,000 worth of carp stolen. Eddie claims that migrant workers arrive just before dusk and fish his lakes – before taking what they catch for the table.

Despite cold weather, Tom Oliver has managed to find some march-time monsters! With anticipation high for some mild weather in March it could not have been any worse! Temperatures have remained subzero and despite a few sunny days there has been no significant sign to say that spring is finally here. Despite these dismal conditions I decided that my first opportunity in March would be spent on my new target water for the year, a small syndicate in the Ringwood area of Hampshire. I had been regularly looking around the 10-acre lake all winter while fishing on the adjacent water and during February I started to see a few signs of carp life in one particular area. My first trip began on the first Friday of the month after I had finished work.

Biggest-ever carp banked from Milton Keynes lake. Weighing in at 39lb 10oz, the monster shown here adds almost two clear pounds to Milton Keynes Angling Association's carp record. For captor Sam Willis, banking it Sunday morning came as just reward for 'sticking out' a miserable week of bitter winds and frosts on wide-open Willen's 150 acres. While so many other carpers were waiting for warmer weather to start their campaigns, he and photographer Jason Partlow fished four unproductive days before the monster put in an appearance.

Prizewinner makes best of conditions by putting reels to good use! Although the recent cold weather may have put the carp off feeding at a lot of our nation's fisheries, it didn't stop prizewinner, Brian Sansom from getting out and testing the set of carp reels that he won in a recent issue of Total Carp. Brian explained: "It was a little cold for carp fishing at the weekend so I decided to put the two reels that I won as a prize to good use by taking them pike fishing! I caught seven in total between 8lb and 16lb, and certainly gave the reels the workout they needed! Needless to say I was very impressed!". . .
