Gone are the days when fishing glasses made you look like an extra from The Fly, as carp anglers in particular have become more fashion conscious in every aspect of their apparel. These polarised sunglasses come in four styles, each of which would not look out of place when worn casually, yet they boast excellent-quality lenses that offer that polarisation and UV protection. There are three versions, namely the Classics, Wraps and Aviators, and there are a variety of frame and lens combinations. Each looks the part and will appeal to anglers with differing individual tastes.

Travelling light has always been deemed as an aspect for river anglers or dedicated bank crawlers awaiting a stalking opportunity, well I think this is as far from the truth as it could be. Of course, it is more essential for such anglers but, no matter where you fish, what you fish for, or how long your next session is, the lighter you are, the more mobile and adaptable you can be and it’s better to be prepared than not. Carp care is paramount whether you travel light or take everything including the kitchen sink. As part of the established Atom Concept range, this lightweight unhooking mat provides a compact fish-care solution utilising the best materials available.

Let me begin by saying that I have only been using this on and off for two months and by no means am I claiming to be an expert in the technology this device utilises. However, that said, it is insanely cool and equally, if not more, practical than it may first appear. So what is it? It’s a small, compact and completely portable fish-finding device that also relays depths, substrate and temperature straight back to your hand-held device, which in my case was my Android smartphone. Firstly I was surprised at how easy it was to set up.

I love this combination of bobbin head and cord and it literally covers all scenarios with the exception, maybe, of when fishing in high winds. There are two lengths of cord available and I have used both, but favour the shorter one. With Cygnet’s Kippa Clips I can fish slack or tight lines at a variety of heights, so I find the shorter ones ample. If you’re really into ultra-slack-line fishing, which I’m not, then you might prefer the longer cords.

Feeling comfortable on the bank means i keep going even if the bites aren’t coming thick and fast, and this garment not only keeps me snug and protected but makes me look the part, even if i do say so myself. Loaded to the hilt with features this fully functional jacket is the perfect addition to my wardrobe. Fully taped seams and waterproof zips means i can keep all my essentials dry and to hand and by being compatable with the Navitas Atlas Fleece means i can simply add another layer if needed should the wather turn for the worse. With an inbuilt lightweight synthetic insulation i am yet to get cold when worn with the correct base layers but equally i do not find myself sweatng and over heating neither.

When you think custom-built rods, or even quality rods for that matter, Harrison has to be near the top of your list and with a prestige and undisputed reputation in the field it is clear to see why. Designed under a strict set of guidelines from the dedicated team members at Planet Carp, they have done all the hard work for you and these easy to use casting rods are not only a concept but have been finished surpassing all expectations and really are items of beauty. Unlike the big boys of the casting world, the likes of the untameable Torrix and the insane Trebuchet, these rods can be compressed by the average carp angler to help put yards on their cast and could even offer ranges in excess of 180 yards plus. Once you’ve got to grips with them it will seem so effortless you will wonder why you never tried them sooner.

Now here is a lovely little product that although on first appearances doesn’t seem like much, will benefit you throughout the colder months and can be stashed away in a small side pocket and forgotten about until you need it; when you do, there is no better alternative. Made from non-pill polyester, this soft-feel garment can be worn in four different ways, ensuring you stay wrapped up and snug throughout crisp, cold evenings and bitter winds. The Headover can be rolled up to be worn as a traditional fleece hat or pulled down to provide a more traditional neck snood. If the weather really does take a turn for the worse and you are crazy enough to be fishing in blizzard-like conditions or when that dreadful icy rain begins to descend, then simply don the garment as a fully-fledged balaclava.

I use the Resolute hard anodised aluminium bankware and absolutely love it. So when this pod came to my attention I just had to get one in for a closer look. It’s compact, very compact in fact, and its simple design is both functional and extremely robust, yet despite its simplicity I think it looks great too, especially with rods on. There is a ‘standard’ version as well but, brilliantly, CAS will actually custom build them to your spec, including spirit levels and bobbin threads that can be integrated.
