Angler's patience rewarded with 32lb glory as he lands new fishery best. At 32lb 4oz this chunky mirror sets a new venue record for Somerset carp water Carpenters Lake. The fish, known as Joey, was captured this week by Frome-based angler Adam Green after the local rod put in a string of sessions to catch the specimen which broke it’s own record for the water that previously stood at 31lb 6oz. “Before this Adam had been pretty unlucky and his best from the water was just 12lb,” venue owner Neil Carpenter told Total Carp.

I’ve been testing the Short & Stumpy banksticks in conjunction with the three-rod extendable buzz bars and Quicklock butt rests and, to date, they’ve performed as well as anything I’ve used in the past. I like that the buzz bars have milled-flat internal rods so that they do not twist annoyingly when being extended. I’ve been using the nine to 16in bars and the 12 to 22in sticks, but they’re also available in other lengths and combinations. My favourite items are the Quicklock butt rests.

Having changed my car from a family-sized MPV to a much smaller model I have had to rethink some of my tackle items. My new motor is still an estate, but it’s a very compact version so, sadly, my previous barrow, which I really liked, had to go. The Metro is the smallest in the range and is ideally suited to anglers with smaller cars or who don’t take mountains of gear. It’s performed really well, and it copes comfortably with my bedchair (I open the legs to form side arms on the barrow), rucksack, rod bag, bivvy and bait bucket.

Daiwa’s Basia receives plenty of coverage and has many admirers, yet the ISO seems to be afforded considerably less airtime. Having tested a set of these over a period of months (and having previously also used Basias) I think that the ISO is worthy of similar acclaim. So important to carp anglers, the ISO looks sublime. The black finish with red trim offers an air of luxury and the wooden handle sets it all off perfectly.
