Disappointment at derisory sum.
Anglers have reacted with anger to the news that their sport will receive just £1. 8million in funding from Sport England over the next four years. Over the same length of time, badminton will receive £18 million, netball £25 million and golf £13 million.
Okay, hair stops are hair stops, right? Well, yes, but these are decent versions, well shaped to fit neatly into your baits (if that sort of thing matters to you) and they are available in a plethora of colours. I like to use a fluoro orange or yellow to add a flash of colour to my otherwise dull New Grange hook baits. Here’s the best bit, there are a whopping 212 stops in every pack! Taska also produces an extended version. Marc CoulsonRRP: £1.
I’ve long been a fan of the Arma Points, with their sharp points that seem exceptionally durable, dull coating and comprehensive range. When the latest pattern, the XSC, was added a year or so ago I immediately got my hands on some. I find the pattern – straight point, slightly swept shank and neutral eye – to be extremely versatile. They can be used with or without shrink tubing, or similar, to create just about any rig you want.
These unique back rests allow rods to be fished rock solid and negate any concerns, especially when fishing snaggy or weedy lakes. The rubberised finish grips the rod nicely, while still protecting it. The retaining arms can be adapted easily by unscrewing the small washers to accommodate any rod-handle type with ease. The stainless-steel body is sturdy and features a nifty locking collar for perfect alignment on the buzz bars.
Numerous products caught our eye at the Tackle & Guns Trade Show and you lot have plenty to look out for in 2013. However, this year we decided to choose our favourite and give it a bit of coverage. After much deliberation, the Fox Black Label Indicator range edged it as best new product of the show. Following on from the phenomenal Black Label rod support, the indicators are extremely impressive and offer the user a complete bite-indication setup that can be tailored to suit any water and conditions.
The biggest concern when using any helicopter/chod-style rig is safety. A carp being able to rid itself of the lead and leader in the event of the main-line breaking is something that we should never lose sight of. There are numerous ways to ensure that beads and rigs can slide off a leader easily (or main line in the case of a naked chod), but Korda has designed a complete system, with fully compatible products, to make it easy… and, more importantly, safe. When our editor, Marc Coulson, took delivery of a couple of packs he was immediately impressed.

Kevin Nash book wows the critics. The long awaited memoirs of carp fishing legend Kevin Nash have recently hit the shelves –and are already proving popular among punters up and down the country. Total Carp magazine Editor, Marc Coulson was one of the first people to get his hands on it, and explained: “I’m not a big one for reading carp fishing books, I have to admit, largely because I am surrounded by carp fishing every day and I know many of the authors personally. I also know most of their histories and their tales of carp fishing adventures; indeed, I have even featured in one or two books written by some of the big names.
