£755,000 asking price for top southern water.
A mixed trout and coarse fishery that the owners claim is one of the finest and most tranquil in Somerset is for sale through fishery-sales expert Fenn Wright at a guide price of £755,000. Burton Springs Fishery lies on the outskirts of Burton village, just over 10 miles from Bridgwater and the M5 motorway and close to the historic coastal resort of Watchet. The fishery takes up around 7.
Richie Lofthouse banks syndicate special. Richie Lofthouse has been enjoying a prolific run of form on his Essex syndicate recently, banking a pristine 31lb 10oz mirror carp. The fish, which is regarded as one of the venue's most revered fish, fell to a naked chod rig, while Richie was enjoying a night session at the venue. Richie explained: “I arrived at the lake late on the Sunday evening at around 7pm for a 24-hour session.
MPs' warning to water companies over sex-changing chemicals in rivers. The
Angling Trust is urging water companies to remove gender-bending
chemicals from waste water before they enter our rivers, backing a hard-hitting report put forward by MPs. Angling
Trust chief executive Mark Lloyd said: “I am delighted that this
all-party select committee backs what the Trust has been calling for
over the past few years. “There is mounting evidence that these
endocrine-disruptor chemicals make fish change sex, can poison aquatic
organisms and damage ecosystems.
Broughton thinks a closed-season review is unlikely. Experienced fisheries management consultant Dr Bruno Broughton has added his opinion to the ongoing close-season debate. An expert in his field, Bruno is familiar with most of the arguments for and against a coarse fish close season. He explained: “The 93-day closure on rivers is an approximation to cover the span of breeding times for most coarse fish in most years, from early spawners (such as pike) to late spawners (notably tench and carp).
Karl Jenkinson reflects on a very rewarding weekend. The elusive carp of a local farm pond are all I have been able think about lately. Over a two-week period I visited the lake five or six times after work to apply some bait and build up knowledge of the fish behaviour. Having only had seven carp over 50 nights’ fishing, it was imperative that I did my homework.
I use a few bits from the OCD (Organised Compact Design) luggage range but one of my favourites has to be this carryall. With its multiple lift-out accessory bags it makes keeping my gear organised and in the right place an absolute doddle. There are six small and two large bags, which fit perfectly inside the carryall. A quick-access front pocket is a brilliant addition and the two end pockets will each house one of the small accessory cases if needed.
Although I have had limited use of these baits I am taken by the make-up of the boilies, even the shelf-life versions, which absolutely stink of shrimp, salmon, fishmeal and all manner of goodies packed inside. The inclusion of Robin Red increases the all-round profile. There are matching pop-ups to complement the baits and I particularly like the washed-out pink hook baits, (although the label calls them Fluro, they’re not) which could work brilliantly fishing over the top of a bed of boilies. I’ve started introducing them to one of the waters that I fish and, so far, the carp have readily accepted them.
Who says rods need to be 12 or even 13 feet long? Believe it or not, there is a definite market for shorter wands and a significant advantage to using them.
I fish a small club water that suffers from quite a bit of foliage around and above the swims. Casting the short distance to the far margin can be extremely difficult in one or two areas. It’s not unknown for me to have one foot in the water and the other knee on the floor to get down low enough to avoid the branches above.
Nano Technology is very much the buzz word in carp-rod design right now, and Greys has spent three years perfecting its own to create what looks like an extremely decent range of wands. Its Toreno composite technology claims to create a rod with a stronger and lighter blank but with no compromise in terms of action and performance. We don’t really need to delve any deeper into the science of it all, but in layman’s terms you could say that the result should be a terrific carp rod with all-round performance. Just about every rod on the market claims to offer casting performance with sustained playability, but the reality is that only a handful probably actually deliver on this promise.
Judge gives 72-year-old a seven-day sentence. A 72-year-old fisherman from Fish Hook in Minnesota, USA, has been sentenced to a week in prison, after being convicted of defrauding the organisers of a £6,000 angling contest. Tom Mead won the bounty, after sneaking two fish from a different lake into his boat, then weighing them in and attempting to claim the prize. Fortunately, Meads actions were observed – and he was swiftly brought to justice.
