Korda ace banks Lea Valley target fish. Steve ‘The Apache’ Cliff has been enjoying a good run of form this year. Until now, he’d banked many of the bigger residents in his target Lea Valley water apart from the one he wanted most! Well that all changed recently, and on his birthday of all days!Steve arrived at the lake for what was due to be his last session of the season, bringing to a close his seven-weekend campaign. He found the swim that had been so productive for him was taken, so he dropped into a swim that he’d never actually fished before.

Fishing a variety of venues, be it on TC features or when fishing for myself, I need a line that is versatile enough for whatever situation I might face next. Having tested the 12lb and 10lb versions of the Tribal for some time, I settled on the latter, largely due to the fact that the breaking strain seems considerably higher than that stated on the spool. You pay for this extra strength with a bit more in the way of diameter, so it’s not for the really long casters. However, I rarely fish over 100 yards and the 10lb gets me out that far with some ease.

With two sizes available, these little rests will suit whatever rod you use. I’ve been testing the larger size because I have Duplon-handled rods and they fit really snugly. They also look an absolute treat, thanks to their compact size. VERDICTPerformance: 8/10Value: 8/10It’s just a bit of rubber at the end of the day, but I like them!RRP: £3.

With many of the sunglasses available falling short on upbeat, innovative design, Fortis has carved itself a new niche in the fishing sunglasses market. Inspired by designer specs models, it has produced a range that ticks the functional and stylish boxes for modern fishing lenses. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that it has compromised on functionality. The frames all wrap around the eyes preventing sidelight ingress, a common problem with some non-fishing sunglasses.

50lb fish found floating in Berkshire Syndicate. The famous Black Swan syndicate, near Reading in Berkshre has lost one of it’s A list fish, in the shape of the famous ‘Big Common. ’ The massive fish weighed 51lb when it was taken from the lake, leaving everyone - including the bailiff Simon Bartlam shocked and saddened. He explained: “ The fish was seen just a couple of weeks ago swimming around and feeding, and when it was pulled from the lake it wasn’t like it was full of spawn – so why it passed away is something of a mystery really.
