As an avid user of Proper Job’s excellent hook baits, which are always brilliantly rolled and boast superb flavour ranges, I was excited when these two new versions landed at TC towers. The first tub we opened were the Scopex & Strawberry, a combination that seems less popular than it once was but which is a devastating bait, especially in cold conditions. They smell terrific, which isn’t always a barometer that they’ll work, but I know that Kevin Heal at PJPU uses only the best flavour/attractor combinations so I have no doubt that these will be effective. Second up is the wonderful Chocolate Orange, which is an absolute winner.

TC reader Mike Francis from Hull says: I’ll be honest, when I sent my name in for these Reader Reviews I thought it unlikely that I’d receive anything decent, but when this Krusha was delivered, complete with a note from the editor, I was delighted. I’d wanted one for some time but at nearly 15 quid I felt it too expensive. “Result,” I thought. There’s not much to really say about the Krusha itself.
Having seen the need for a highly nutritious shelf-life bait that involved no need for a freezer, the Code Red offers both the fresh, high-quality ingredients of a freezer bait, mixed with the instant attraction and hassle-free use that a shelf life is so renowned for. As soon as the baits hit the water they are pumping out attraction. Whether it be from the high-quality pre-digested fishmeals in the base mix, or the liquid liver that has provided attraction and flavour to the bait, Code Red works on so many levels. Unlike traditional shelf-life boilies, which can be rock hard, these are easily breakable by hand, with particular attention being made to preventing breakage when baiting up with a throwing stick.

I’ve reviewed these bags many times over the years and felt compelled to do so again in this issue, given our Buyer’s Guide feature on solid bags. They remain the most consistent bags that I’ve used for my fishing over a prolonged period. I can’t remember the last time I had a seam break on me and, given that I tie my bags as tightly as I possibly can, this is a huge indictment. While there are several sizes available I only really use the size 5s because they suit my style of fishing.

In more recent years, drop-off inline leads have become very popular and have taken a leading role in my approach. I like to use heavy leads when I can get away with it but it’s just as important that when I’m attached to the carp there’s no lead hindering my contact. I opted to test out these leads when they arrived at the office because they have been specifically designed for use as a safety drop-off lead system. The groove allows either the main line or leader to be situated flush against the lead, which reduces the damage that can often be caused against the lake bed or snags.
