Hello, my name is Lewis Harmes and I am 14. I started fishing when I was about six, when my granddad decided to take me fly fishing.
We arrived at a small lake in the hills and as soon as my granddad cast his first line into the lake, I watched it get taken by a small brown trout. He told me to run over and get the net for him.
Carp fishing throughout Europe is by no means new; however in the last year its popularity seems to have risen tenfold. Well, instead of bringing you another Brits account of his fishing holiday we are pleased to bring to you the another blog from Dutch angler Nick van Rossum who has found some seldom found peace and tranquillity in the heart of Holland. Enjoy The Oaks - A small mysterious lake with only oaks around it. After months of carp fishing on one of the hardest canals in Holland I came across this beautiful lake.

Check out this chunk, bagged recently by one of Solar's top Dutch menHaving baited an area on his target water, a difficult 35-acre gravel pit, for two months using Solar Tackle’s Club Mix boilies, Dutch-based angler Thijs Moerland presented a Club Mix hook bait over the top to land this impressive common. . . .
Peruse Dave Lane’s excellent article in the January Issue of Total Carp and you’ll see that hemp plays a huge part in his baiting approach at this time of year.
For Dave Lane, read any number of top carp anglers, because so many of them are singing from the same hymn sheet, so to speak.
While particles might not necessarily feature in the plans of many of us, hemp is the exception and is a stunning cold-water attractor and feed. It’s also perfect for maintaining the carp’s attention over a period of time.
Great range to suit all needs - What’s not to like?
We’ve had Trakker’s top-of-the range and hugely powerful CG-3, which our own Dan Murrell uses for his fishing, but there are three more stoves in Trakker’s range, each at a slightly different price point and offering a variety of features.
Let’s start with the Mercury, which is a traditional canister-top style, which screws directly on to the gas can itself. Four foldout arms offer stability and the output is exceptionally efficient for this style of stove.
The Mercury also features an integral Piezo ignition, particularly essential at this time of year.
We LOVE these!
Having heard lots of good things about it, on arrival of the new ESP Tungsten Loaded, we immediately downed tools and began to play.
Firstly we liked the packaging, and no it’s not because Terry Hearn is on it either, the square tackle-box-friendly spool is a convenient size, housing 10 metres of coated material, ideal for when you are trying to streamline your tackle box.
Now, this isn’t your usual coated braid. The tungsten coating is extremely durable and, as you would expect, heavy.
Petzl has long been synonymous with top-quality headtorches, with the compact designs but often unique features appealing to carp anglers in particular.
The 100-lumen Tikka has been around for as long as I can remember and was the torch of choice for me, and just about every carp angler I know, for a very long time.
Next up is the Tikkina, which at 80 lumens is still ample for most anglers but costs not much over a tenner if you shop around. How Petzl can produce such a quality torch at this price is beyond me, but it is indeed the case.
