Most of my fishing has been done with small 12mm pop-ups balanced, but there is certainly a time and place for using pop-ups. I have spent years trying to find something that is low to the lake bed, doesn’t involve relying on putty or fiddling around with stiff materials and which works exactly how I want it to.
