Prologic Frame X X1 Bivvy

UK Exclusive First Review!

The improved version of Prologic’s Frame-X bivvy, I first got a glimpse of the X1 at Carp In The Park, but then more recently I saw it properly while out on the 7 Top Tips shoot with Prologic-backed Rik Johnson this month.

I was immediately impressed by how quickly the innovative X-Frame design allowed Rik to set it up, literally a few seconds, even quicker than a pram-hood design. Once up, it was also absolutely drum tight and extremely solid. Even my efforts to shake the life out of it saw the X1 barely yield an inch. It’s designed, according to Prologic, “for the mobile angler who no longer wants to sacrifice comfort when scaling down their kit” and it’s easy to see where this description comes from. It’s not a compact bivvy in the sense of, say, an Aqua Atom, but equally it’s smaller than most, almost a hybrid size if you like and this could just be perfect for very many anglers.

There’s room inside for even the widest bedchairs, but not so much for all the ‘kitchen sink’ brigade, and I like that. Fittings throughout are good quality and the groundsheet both Velcros and clips in for a secure and neat fit. There’s a mozzie-panel option and two-way zip on the door. A rear mozzie-mesh window and the RipStop Storm Safe Tex material are excellent throughout. I was lucky to see it so early, expect them in the shops in early 2017. (MC)
