The Mud Company | Portable coffee maker
If you’re the type of angler who refuses to settle for instant coffee on a cold morning or you can never wait to get to the services for a proper coffee en route home, The Mud Company’s new portable coffee maker might be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. Compact, rugged and properly clever, it brings barista-level coffee to the bivvy. Back in the winter we were treated to a similar level of class from Mr Mike Holly, who swears by a proper coffee, whilst we had to agree, watching him mess around with all the different bits of gear was aggro – even as a spectator. Mike, if you are reading this, you need one of these!
Built for the outdoors, this self-heating system delivers up to five hot cups from cold water or up to 100 shots using preheated water – ideal for longer sessions when power conservation matters. Whether you’re fishing off the beaten track or just want to level up your brew game on a day-ticket lake, it’s got your caffeine fix covered.
Our main concern was the cost of pods, this is always the deal breaker; however, we were pleasantly surprised to find out you can use your favourite ground coffee or drop in a Nespresso pod if you don’t mind the price of them – just fill, press and brew. The result is proper, fresh coffee in seconds, no stove or kettle required if you are going in with cold water. It’s the sort of kit that turns early starts, long waits in the winter or just a social brew into something a bit more civilised.
Made from stainless steel and high-grade plastic, the unit is light enough to carry but tough enough to be used outdoors and not just a shelf queen like its three-pin counterparts.
So, if your idea of a good session includes quality coffee between runs, The Mud Company’s portable coffee maker deserves a spot in your kit bag.
A substantial investment up front but if you like the finer things in life, including coffee, it’s no doubt, a no-brainer!
