Jamie Simpson enjoys great start to year.
Avid's Jamie Simpson kicked of his year in style, banking a cracking 25lb mirror on his first session of the year. "I'd done a couple of sessions on The Monument in Shropshire before Christmas and, although I'd struggled a bit, I knew exactly where the carp were holding up for the winter. Every time I'd fished the lake, I'd seen carp showing in the same area time and time again.

This has several advantages over the standard 999 number, in that it can be recognised in 70 Countries worldwide – and can often connect to an operator even when there is no signal on your network.

Research shows angling can burn up to 490 calories per hour.
Yet more evidence has come to light proving just how good fishing is for your health. A survey, examining how many calories various activities burn, found that angling burns up to 490 calories when fishing in waders – but even more passive fishing from the bank while sat in a stationary position burns 245 calories. This makes even the most relaxed forms of angling as healthy as walking the dog, windsurfing, light canoeing and volleyball.
With the weather turning once again I found a short window of lows coming in towards the end of December, coupled with a warmish south westerly and with the temp. at a steady 9 degrees things were looking up for my next raid on the pit. The good old XC Weather App on my iphone had served me well in the past and I felt my confidence beginning to grow at work 2 days prior to my trip on Monks. I had been dealt another bad blow at work, what with the Olympics build now well and truly behind me, I had been told that I was to basically relocate my work back into London.
Whilst I wish I was amongst those that have been out on the bank making the most of the surprisingly mild wet weather during December unfortunately my total fishing amounted to only two trips, the first being a quick overnighter and the second being a short five hour day session. This was down to several factors the first being work. As it was the run up to the holiday season it meant we were extra busy due to the educational fishing courses we deliver coming to an end and having to prepare for the winter shut down of the site. You see I am the event manager and lead angling coach at For Life Experiences, I have been working there for over three years now and we deliver a variety of educational courses themed around angling and have just been granted College status so come February 2013 we will be delivering accredited fishery management courses to a variety of pupils.
