Having used Greys’ Isoflex’s exclusively for six months I have definitely put them through their paces. I have fished a wide range of venues, some where long casts are necessary, and they have performed brilliantly. The fast-taper blank allows fantastic tip recovery, ensuring repeated smooth casts that hit the money every time. I swapped from progressive (through) action rods and have seen no significant fish loses due to the stiffer tip when playing fish.

I have been using the TF Gear Dave Lane Mag Runner alarms for a little over three months and it’s so far so good. The set comprises three alarms and a receiver unit and what fantastic value for money it is. I like simplicity when it comes to alarms because simplicity works and there’s not a lot that can go wrong. Each alarm has an on/off switch; bright, luminous roller wheel and a switch to link up with the receiver.

With winter well and truly upon us, a warm sleeping bag is paramount. This five-season version from Vision is brilliant. The fully waterproof and breathable Windtex fabric houses a four-season, single, fleece-lined, thermal quilt to keep you toasty in even the worst of conditions. The detachable pillow offers added comfort, while the fabric hoods at the base and head ends fit over your bedchair to fix it in place.

At first glance, the steep price tag may look unappealing but grab a bottle of this stuff and give it a go. On opening the bottle a salty fish aroma hits you that resembles the smell of ground fish. Put a good helping of the liquid onto a hook bait and the thickness sticks brilliantly, even on impact with the water. With it being PVA-friendly I wouldn’t be averse to putting a squirt or two in a bag to increase the pulling power or adding it to a stick mix.

These amazing bottles, which are easy to carry and available in two colours, black and white, filter lake, river and stream water and make it safe to drink. They can also be used as conventional bottles to store cold drinks in and, while we’re not suggesting that they should be the only source of water you rely on, they are perfect as a stopgap or in times of need. With the ability to remove up to 99. 99 per cent of all contaminants, the Water-to-Go will give you perfectly safe, ready-to-drink water and with a 700ml capacity there’ll be enough to keep you going for a while.

The newest glasses in the Fortis range sees a slight move away from fashion designs with the Wrap instead offering a more traditional look, yet with modern lines. The wraparound design offers full protection and peripheral vision, as well as eliminating light ingress. Vents in the upper frame prevent steaming and two lens options cover all types of light conditions. They’re also very light and comfortable to wear for long periods and offer UV400 protection, as well as the same polarising properties of the rest of the impressive range.

First impressions of this gazebo-type shelter are not immediately conducive to stopping you in your tracks and making you dash out to your nearest Avid stockist to buy one. However, once you look at how it works and open your mind to the possibilities, it becomes more and more impressive. With four side panels, each with a full central zip, you basically park it over up to four bivvies to create a large shelter, compete with communal area for socials, extra gear or just that added space and comfort. We saw this one with two bivvies at a 90-degree angle to each other and immediately imagined how useful it would be to the hordes of anglers who fish as pairs at venues like Linear.
