Top carpers take French venue to pieces during short session. Fox-backed duo Rob Hughes and Mark Bartlett have just returned from an epic trip to France’s famous Abbey Lakes which over just four nights saw them bank no less than 44 fish between them. Including a large number of 30s and 40s in their haul, the guys showed why they are the top of their games, adopting totally different approaching to the venue but still giving the fish what for. During the trip Rob opted for a more mobile approach, keeping things fluid and following the fish, he even managed to stalk out fish to 45lb in the margins.

Solar-powered bite alarm revealed by top carp tackle manufacturer. JRC has revealed what is believed to be a world first – the solar-powered bite alarm. Showcased at the recent EFFTEX show held in Paris, the Radar DS Solar – based on the firm’s brilliant Radar alarm – is set to hit tackle shops this Autumn. Continuing on from my last piece, the conditions started to get more and more favourable for the Manor and I decided that now I could start to increase the amount of bait that I was applying to the North West bay that had been so good to me through the colder months. One particular area that I had plumbed and plumbed to ‘fine tune’ the spot would start to receive 2k of Richworth’s NV, mixed with 4/8mm Multi-Stim Pellets that have an excellent breakdown time while still maintaining the same attractors that are in the bolies. Size wise it was 10/14millers every 3 days. This spot was a ledge that started at 3ft and dropped to 7ft, at the end of this nice fine pea-shingle was located with the lead and every time I cast to that spot the tip would absolutely crack down, just the way I like it.

Angler smashes global record with first carp over 100lbs - and it's not French! At 101lb 4oz, this is the new world record carp. Caught on June 2, the huge triple figure monster was banked from Hungarian fishery, Euro-Aqua, on the shores of Lake Balaton on the west of the country. The lucky angler who added his name to the history books is Austrian carp angler Roman Hanke, after his fish fell for a birdseed boilie in the early hours of the morning. Weighed and witnessed by a number of individuals, the huge mirror measured 113cm in length, with bosses of the venue predicting that this fish could well go over 50kg, 110lb, in the future.

Trials for national carp team see anglers decided for final round. The finalists for this year’s Korda Carp Team England Trials have been announced following round two of the selection process held at Lancashire’s Wyreside LakesEight pairs contested the second round, with England management pair Ian Huntington and Pete Holehouse watching proceedings carefully to get the measure of the anglers both individually and as a team. Despite tough conditions on Wyre Lake where the round was fished, and the fact that none of the anglers taking part had ever fished the venue before, the England managers were impressed by what they saw. “We wanted the trial to be as fair as possible, hence setting it at a venue that none of the anglers had fished,” said Ian Huntington.

South West venue breaks 40lb barrier in style - and with champagne!Devon’s famous Anglers Paradise has produced its first ever 40lb carp. Caught last week at a weight of 41lb 14oz, the specimen came from the complex’s Kracking Carp Lake and was banked by venue regular and former Drennan Cup winner Julian Chidgey. The fish was tempted on freelined Richworth K-G-1 pellet tipped with a grain of fake corn just seconds after the first cast of the session. “With temperatures high I decided to have a look around the Kracking carp lake and found five fish sat just below the surface among some weed.

Since my last entry on the TC website things have once again been super, super busy. I have however managed to get out and about and I’m pleased to say that I have tripped a few up along the way. My first trip in May was an overnight session on the first day of the season on Cleverley Top Lake and after coming out dead last in the draw I managed a stunning, scaley 28lb 8oz mirror known as ‘Busted’ just a couple of hours after casting out. The remainder of the session was very quiet with no more carp but it was great to be off the mark on the tricky Top Lake so quick.

Since James Armstrong's last piece, his fishing, and life, has been absolute mayhem…in a good way. I’ve spent two nights a week targeting the ancient Leney linear that inhabits my Cambridgeshire water. I’ve seen him a number of times. It was on a mild, springlike day that I found myself drifting around in my rickety, wooden rowing boat searching for fish.
