Quick Questions With… Stef Radymski

One of Solar’s ‘Sharper Carpers’, Stef Radymski answers the questions this month.

Three words to describe yourself?
Organised, energetic, motivated.

Who have been your biggest influences in carp fishing?
My cousin Roman, and my mate Scott Roberts.

Scariest moment on the bank?
I was walking a disused quarry, fell down a cliff and broke a bone in my ankle against a rock! Turned out there was nothing in the lake anyway.

How long have you been carp fishing?
Close to 20 years.

How did you start carp fishing?
I started pleasure fishing on the canals with Roman, then hooked a carp and that was what started it.

Other sporting interests?
FOOTBALL! And boxing.

One day left to go fishing, where would you go?
I’d probably go to Girton – it’s a mega lake.

Best three anglers you’ve ever worked/fished with?
Jake Anderson, my mate Scott and Lee Metcalfe.

Your favourite moment in your carp angling career?
Catching Tutti at a lake record weight of 43lb 12oz from Girton.

Three things you’d never go fishing without?
Sharpened hook, tub of pop-ups, shades.

Any regrets?
Not quitting work and starting my own business sooner – it’s opened up loads of opportunities for me.

Biggest character you have met through fishing?
Dave the Rave.

What are your favourite bits about carping?
I love the social side – meeting all sorts of characters on the bank. I also really enjoy fishing a new water and the anticipation of prep work.

Your least favourite bits?
I hate all the clichéd stuff and fake people.

Who do you most admire in carp fishing?
Terry Hearn.

Tell us a secret?
I’m looking at buying my own lake.

Tea or coffee?
Coffee.

Favourite biscuit?
Chocolate Hobnob.

Favourite takeaway?
Pizza.

Funniest moment on the bank?
My mate Adam Dawes had all his spots primed, got his rigs sorted and clipped all his rods up, then went for a walk. While he was away we clipped his rods back up at about a rod length. He then went for the big chuck and obviously it all went wrong – he wasn’t too happy… it was hilarious for all of us, though!

One fish you would have loved to have caught, past or present?
The Black Mirror.
