Charrington banks giant carp. Fox's media assistant Harry Charrington had a result last weekend in the shape of this 34lb 4oz mirror. Tackling a 10 acre pit, Harry baited a marginal area with a kilo of mixed Ultraplex and S-core boilies. His rig was on a simple lead clip setup with a 4oz Flat Pear and consisted of six inches of Camotex Stiff with a small amount stripped back before his size 4 Arma Point SSBP hook and snowman hookbait.

French giant for Solar ace. Following the recent report of Solar-backed Alfons Schambeck landing a 72lb common, Alfons has upped his PB again just a few days later by landing a 77lb 2oz mirror. The huge fish, which is the well-known Briggsy Fish from Rainbow Lake, was caught by Alfons from swim 18 using Solar's Seafood Take-Away boilies. Charity fish in a roaring success. When CEMEX decided to sell off Yateley, the site was broken up and purchased by three different entities it was not clear whether this would be the end of the Stoney and Friends Fish-ins on Yateley that had taken place there for the previous 16 years and had raised huge amounts for Macmillan Cancer Support. However, shortly after Martin Gardener purchased the Pads, North, Car Park and Split Lake to form the new Yateley West Fishery, he advised Allan Stone that he was prepared to donate these lakes to ensure the survival of the event. This was an extremely generous gesture and appreciated by all involved in Stoney and Friends.

Wildbore captures the Immaculate common from Gigantica! The Korda staff trip to Gigantica, in France, has seen plenty of carp captures this week. Having come last out of the bag in the draw, Jake Wildbore settled into his swim, and with a few fish in residence he set about feeding little and often, keeping his lines out the swim. The result was the Immaculate Common at a weight of 59lb 4oz. The fish hasn't been caught for more than four years, and it was in perfect condition.

Google attacked for promoting unscrupulous sites. The Angling Trust has continued its high-profile campaign against internet rod licence rip-offs and this week slammed Google for advertising websites which take advantage of hard-pressed anglers trying to buy a rod licence by charging them a £20 administration fee for a £27 rod licence, despite offering no additional service whatsoever. The internet giant had taken down the adverts when the scam was exposed on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme, but they have since re-appeared. Searches for “buy rod licence” or “fishing licence” on Google generate a list of results that are headed up with sponsored links to the offending sites – rodlicence.

Oliver's BCAC disappointment. In his latest blog for the Total Carp website, Tom Oliver describes his disappointment after a pegging error at this year's British Carp Angling Championships (BCAC) led to him being stripped of any chance of winning. He explained: "As we were setting up in the swim, head marshall and event owner Simon Beanie came around to check we were happy. We explained our plan, which was to fish into the open water to our right, and expressed our confidence that we had a good chance to compete and progress to the final with the water we had to fish in.

Tom Oliver reflects on a month of highs and lows. After a successful June I was hoping my run of luck would continue but as each week went on it soon became clear my luck had changed and things were not going to plan. The first weekend in July saw myself and fishing partner Graham Mabey making the long drive to Birmingham after we had finished work on Thursday evening for the BCAC semi-final. The draw started at 7am the following morning in the impressive clubhouse that looks out over the southern end of the lake.

John Baker's new PB. Advanced Carp Fishing's very own bait guru, John Baker had a dream come true in France last week, when he landed a 78lb and a 73lb 8oz beast from Mar Peche, near Montereau. John, who is known as being one of the UK's top authorities on carp fishing bait, caught the fish on one of his own 20mm boilies in conjunction with a balanced bait setup, popped-up paternoster style on top of the weed. So light was John's feeding regime that he went through just six kilos of bait in his one week stay.
