This is, quite simply, a monofilament main line that tapers at each end to give a robust casting ‘leader’ without any knots or the need for additional materials. This is ideal for venues where casting is at a premium and especially on those where leaders are banned. There are no knots, so therefore no safety issues, which is what leads to such bans. Because the taper is at both ends, when one end becomes worn or short after regular trimming, it can be reverse-wound onto the spool for continued use.
Greys has long been recognised as a top rod manufacturer and the Prodigy range has stood the test of time and accounted for some extraordinary catches along the way. The GT3 is available in a choice of 12ft or 13ft to suit the angler’s preference. The 13ft versions are only available in 3. 5lb test curve, with the traditional 12ft models in 2.
Of late, it’s become extremely fashionable to own a set of big-pit reels regardless of the venue that you fish, well these little black beauties are set to change the trend. This compact baitrunner reel offers bundles of features but without breaking the bank. Featuring S-Surve Oscillation, these reels possess great line lay to aid casting and are fitted with a front and rear drag system, plus an instant anti-reverse function. With a gear ratio of 4.

Based on the hugely successful Monster Tiger Nut boilie recipe, Dynamite added a new fruit palatant and made one or two tweaks to produce this wonderfully sweet, nutty and creamy bait. After initial testing, Dynamite knew it was on to a winner, with lots of its consultants reporting impressive results. A tweak to the colour, which is now a washed-out pink, resulted in the finished article, which eventually made its way into the range of baits produced by the Nottingham-based giant. The success continued apace, with some huge hits on day-ticket waters, as well as some notable captures of individual big carp, such as The Chertsey Mirror at over 55lb.
I’ve wanted a Fox box for many years but have struggled to justify the price tag. However, Fox’s Royale version is much more keenly priced, although thanks to TC I didn’t have to pay for this one and was delighted when asked to review it. It’s been great so far and I can get loads of tackle and essential items into it. Although it sounds a bit of a cliché, it is literally a TARDIS for terminal tackle.
As a big-pit angler, I’m always mucking around on the boat or in my waders looking for that special spot, so I was the best candidate to test the new Cygnet Prodding Stick. What I first liked was its lightweight design and the fact that it floats. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly and easily it was to recognise the difference in the bottom substrate. Each section is clearly marked in 1ft increments to give you an accurate depth and it attaches by a screw thread, which is easy to do, even with cold and wet hands.
