The fruity aroma of the Essential IB is fantastic and I’ve found it to be an instant bait on busy day-ticket waters. Although these are shelf-life baits, I appreciate the resealable packaging that helps keen them in tiptop condition. It also allows me to take home what I don’t use – waste not, want not!I have also used them on a local canal and enjoyed similar success. Because shelf-life baits are slightly firmer than freezer baits I also found them not to take on too much of the stinky, silty smell when using them on the turgid canal bottom.

Although I have had limited use of these baits I am taken by the make-up of the boilies, even the shelf-life versions, which absolutely stink of shrimp, salmon, fishmeal and all manner of goodies packed inside. The inclusion of Robin Red increases the all-round profile. There are matching pop-ups to complement the baits and I particularly like the washed-out pink hook baits, (although the label calls them Fluro, they’re not) which could work brilliantly fishing over the top of a bed of boilies. I’ve started introducing them to one of the waters that I fish and, so far, the carp have readily accepted them.

Krill is very much the in vogue bait right now and this liquid additive is up there with the best krill around. Just a capful or two can transform a spod mix and it’s also perfect for adding to PVA bags and stick mixes for extra pulling power. I love to dip or soak my hook baits in a small amount of the pungent liquid for a few minutes, or longer, before casting out. This helps the hook bait stand out from the crowd and I am sure that it’s resulted in a few bonus bites here and there.

When Sonubaits front man Ian Day visited TC Towers recently, we were intrigued by samples of a new project that he’s been working hard on. The new Salty Nut Crush range of baits provoked instant curiosity among the team and this is a relatively rare occurrence because we see so many new products, especially in terms of supposedly new bait concepts. Ian has managed to create a completely unique profile to the range of baits that bear the Salty Nut Crush name. This is mainly due to the exclusive peanut flour that has been sourced.
