Carp Vs Match

Wychwood looks to answer age old question of who's best, specimen hunter or matchman?

Who’s better, specimen or match anglers?

It’s a topic that is guaranteed to break out in heated debate whenever it comes up – but now an answer to the question is about to be found.

Two of the country’s top brands for carp and match fishing have announced a ‘head-to-head’ competition, which will pit some of the UK’s best anglers against each other.

Wychwood anglers of the quality of Mick Barnes and Nic Brown will take on high-profile matchmen from MAP to battle it out over five hours fishing at Solihull’s Barston lakes. At stake the pride of the two angling disciplines – and you’re invited to watch the action as it unfolds.

Being staged on Monday April 23, the big match will kick off at 12pm with a draw for pegs, before the anglers start fishing at 2.30pm with the weigh in taking place at 7.30pm.

“We’re holding it a little later in the day to give anglers a chance to come down and watch some of the action after work, including the all important weigh in,” Wychwood’s Nic Brown told Total Carp. “None of the pegs will be roped off, so anyone visiting will be able to go and ask the anglers questions and watch them in action close up to learn what they can.”

And the fun doesn’t stop at with the match. Wychwood and MAP have combined to offer you the chance to learn from some of the best in the business, with what’s believed to be the first ever carp/match slide show, presentation and talk being held in the evening in the bar at the fishery.

Free to enter, and including talks by topl match angler Andy May on big match preparation and Wychwood’s Colin Davidson entitled ‘When carp boys have something to offer match fisherman’ it’s perfect for match and carp anglers alike. If you can make it, make sure you don’t miss it.
