Big Plated Out

Father and son team land famous specimen twice in two trips.

One of the most famous carp from well-known day-ticket carp venue Richworth Linear Fisheries has been banked at 44lb 1oz.

The Big Plated, from Linear’s St John Lake was caught this week by angler James Bell while on a three-night session at the water with his father.

Although not the biggest weight that the Big Plates has come out at – last year the fish was banked at 47lb – the capture delivered James a new PB, although he could have done with the lump being just a couple of ounces heavier.

“My dad caught the big plated on our last visit to linear two-years ago at 44lb 2oz,” said 22-year-old James who traveled up from Cornwall for the session. “I think that makes us the first father and son duo to double up on the fish, but it would have been nice to have it heavier than my dad!”

The big fish came at the end of the trip, just as James was packing away his kit, with the rod roaring over after the Big Plated took a Nash White Chocolate Boilie.
This was presented at around 30yards range over a bed of particles and a size 8 Korda Longshank X hook to a Gardner Sly Skin 25lb hooklink.
