Berners brace!
Alan81 | Jun 2, 2023
Angler Name: Alan Draycott
Hometown: Nottingham
Fish Weight: 31lb and 21lb
Bait: Dna baits
Venue: Berners hall
Rig: 3.5inch super natural tied knotless knot to size 4 Korda krank
Tactics: 3 x solid pva bags filled with crayfish mini mix and a PB wafter hook bait fished on a garage door sized clear spot in the weed
Additional Info: It was the areyousports.carp social on berners hall res for 72hrs. The temperature skyrocketed that weekend which made the fishing quite tricky and we did wonder if they’d spawn, fortunately they didn’t.
For the first 24hrs it was really slow with only 2 stockies landed. I noticed everyone was fishing over bait (myself included) but to no avail. So I got the marker rod back out and found a different spot at 22 wraps where I slung a single solid bag. It was in the middle of that night that it proved a good decision as I managed to land 2 x small mirrors. On first light I made the decision to switch all 3 rods to solid bags and chuck them all on the same spot about 2-3ft apart. I cast them all from on top of the bank and when I cast the 3rd one out, I was just stepping down to the water to place the rod on the pod when it ripped off in my hand! A great battle ensued and after nervously pulling it from weed bed to weed bed I managed to land it, a cracking 21lb mirror. Half an hour later a very greedy 27lb+ mirror managed to pick up 2 of my solid bags! Sharing takes for the remainder of the session, Emma and I went on to land 7 carp to a respectable 31lb out of 13 bites. Which included emmas stunning 21lb+ fully that was braced with the 31lb mirror that I caught. We didn’t land the biggest of the social but we landed the most, the biggest overall weight and had the most bites. So all in all a great session I reckon
