PetcheyC | Apr 28, 2021
Angler Name: Callum Petchey
Hometown: Hertfordshire
Fish Weight: 30lb 8oz
Bait: Black Foam soaked in Munch Baits Tri-Sweet
Venue: Syndicate
Rig: 4ft Zig Rig comprising of 15lb hooklink and a size 8 Ridgemonkey APE-X Beaked Point Hook
Tactics: Cast to showing fish towards a large snag
Additional Info: After finishing work early, I arrived at the lake around 4pm. After a couple of laps round it was apparent the fish were well spread out so i chose to fish an area of the lake where there is a large overhang which i know doesn't see too much pressure and there was carp there.
Watching them closely in the edge for an hour or so it was apparent they were coming in from one side really tight to the bank and then finding safety under the overhang.
With one rod clipped up pin tight against the far margin, this was the first to go out, shortly followed by a zig cast towards to overhang about a rod length off, then the final rod was placed just off to the left on a solid bag. Within a couple of hours i had my first take, which turned into a hectic triple take which see me land 2 out of the 3 bites, the biggest being the 30lb 8oz common.
After sorting those fish out and photographing them, I got the rods back out for the night which saw me land another small one and losing one. Then at first light i had a slow, steady take which resulted in a 30 minute battle in the deep water, running me round left and right and trying its best to shed the hook. The terminal stayed strong and finally see me land this lovely 38lb mirror just at first light.
