Advanced Texhnology Tackle ATTs Alarms - 02/07/2009
Tester: Marc Coulson
Test period: Four months
When I first set eyes on these dinky little alarms I was immediately struck by just how compact their design is. Further inspection revealed that their diminutive size was due to the fact that there were no knobs and buttons… or speaker.
Indeed, the alarms themselves are silent, hence the ‘s’ in their name. They work in tandem with a sounder box, the ATTx receiver unit, allowing the alarms to made in such a compact manner. There’s not even an on/off switch – activation is via a small magnet in the head cover, which is supplied with each unit. Remove the cover and the alarm automatically switches on. Place it back on the unit and, you’ve guessed it, off it goes.
One thing I also like about the design is the high ears – the two upright sections either side of the roller wheel. These ensure that the rod cannot be dragged off the alarm when fishing locked up or to one side or the other. No need for snag ears here, unless you’re a tart!
In use, the alarms work well. The roller wheels, which are available in colours to match the LEDs, as well as in four and two-magnet versions, are simplicity on design but work perfectly. So, having tested these for some months I can honestly say that they are an impressive bit of kit. They’re not top-of-the-range alarms, such as a Delkim, and do not boast the sort of features that such alarms can, but then they’re not supposed to be. However, they work perfectly and I am impressed. Oh, and even better, especially when compared to high-end models, is the price. Less than £70 for each alarm head and around £100 for the receiver!
+ Great, compact alarms that are funky as well as functional
- Nothing that springs to mind
