First Impressions: Nash Indulgence Airlite Bedchairs - 26/02/2010

I have made no secret of my admiration of the Indulgence bedchairs and I have used one since the original version was launched three or four years ago.

There have been several upgrades on that design in the time that has passed, the latest of which is the Airlite. Last year’s Indulgence-X has its fans, but there were two recurring gripes with certain groups of carp anglers. Weight and height were where these carpers wanted improvements, so that’s exactly what Nash looked at.

The new Airlite has a mesh under-mattress which has eliminated significant weight and this is perfectly comfortable to sleep on. It gives welcome ventilation on summer trips too. Fear not winter anglers because a thick, padded mattress is easily and quickly added, and attaches via several toggles around the mattress. So, that took care of the weight and simply shortening the legs sorted the height out, making the Airlite perfect for brolly anglers as well as the bivvy boys. It’s also available in the now obligatory Wide Boy version, which I particularly like. It’s as close as you’ll get to sleeping on the bank in a single bed.

The only slight gripe I have with this compared to my Indulgence X is that it’s only available in a three-legged version. I absolutely agree that this is essential in keeping the weight down, but I have got so used to the extra stability of the four-legged model that I have, that I would struggle to be without it now. As well as the Airlite there is an Airlite Sleep System that ingeniously incorporates a sleeping bag on the bed itself. I’ll be looking at those specifically in future issues.
