First Impressions: Trakker Colossus Bivvy - 26/02/2010

When it comes to big bivvies this one has to take top honours.

It’s certainly the biggest I have ever seen in my eight years or so of testing fishing tackle. Essentially, it looks like a giant Armo-style bivvy from the outside, with ample room for up to three bedchairs, but on closer inspection there is a whole lot more to the Colossus.

There is an inner ‘pod’ for want of a better word. It too looks like an Armo bivvy, so essentially you could say that there’s one bivvy inside another. However, the inner version is made from fully breathable cotton and offers a completely encapsulated sleeping area. There is a heavy-duty groundsheet that spans the entire dimension of the outer bivvy, but the inner section also has a lighter version which is sewn in. This means that the inner pod can be made totally bugproof, which will definitely appeal to those travelling to France and beyond for long trips. Ideally, you can take as much gear with you as you are ever likely to need on such holidays because the inner space on this thing is immense.

I have only seen the Colossus briefly, so you can expect some more in-depth reviews at a later date, but, although it will not appeal to the majority of carp anglers, there are definitely going to be takers out there. Made to the usual Trakker high standards, it is absolutely rock solid once erected and you could do a hell of a lot worse, provided you don’t mind lugging two bivvy bags around with you.
