DOUBLE ACT: DOUBLING UP!

Following a tedious drive along precarious country roads I eventually pull up at the side of a beautiful mere. Tony and Jason are fishing The Sitch, which is a private syndicate lake in deepest Shropshire. The picturesque venue measures 26 acres and contains a stock of around 350 stunning carp. Some of you may remember the venue from Neil Smith’s feature in December’s Total Carp. He managed to catch a lake record at just over 20lb. Since then the fish have thrived and the lake now holds carp in excess of 30lb. As I wander along the banks of the stunning venue I spot Jason doing battle with a carp.

“That’ll do!” he exclaims, slipping the carp into his net. After a couple of trophy shots the double-figure mirror is carefully slipped back. “The Sitch holds a good head of carp so I’ve come prepared with my favourite Method mix,” reveals Jason. As he moulds groundbait around his feeder a carp rolls in open water. “That’s exactly where I’m fishing,” he states with positive enthusiasm. Moments later he casts the large Method ball back onto the spot. Tony has obviously heard the commotion and wanders into Jason’s swim, which is a complete mess!
