Old Oaks is situated in the stunning, peaceful countryside of the Pays de la Loire region, near Le Mans. The five-acre lake is more than 34 years old, surrounded by oak trees and overhanging vegetation. It is littered with underwater features, including plateaus, weed beds, gullies and silt patches. In the last few years the owner, Mehdi Daho, has increased the existing stock with a good head of 30lb-plus carp. Before stocking, the lake contained a number of originals that averaged around 25lb. Old Oaks now boasts four 40lb-plus carp, including a colossal 43lb lake-record mirror. The venue also has an impressive head of large commons, with the largest tipping the scales to 41lb last time it graced the bank.

Fishing in France can be a daunting task and gaining a little bit of inside knowledge can make a massive difference. Mehdi is always willing to point you in the right direction and give tips and advice on the water. The venue boasts impressive facilities, including a large picnic area with a stone barbecue. It also has UK electrical sockets for mobile phones and fridges to keep your food fresh. Old Oaks is a relatively easy lake, which makes it the perfect venue for a social with friends. The lake comfortably accommodates five anglers and with fishing from just one bank you can always be sure that you will have enough space to do your own thing. Conveniently, there is even a road that runs the length of the lake, allowing you to park yards from your swim.

Last season lots of anglers did extremely well using artificial hook baits over large beds of particles. Boilies also catch a lot of fish, so if you’re more of a boilie angler you’re sure to get plenty of action.
